69er Darkie

Just going through old photos and posting anything decent, chronology be damned.

Anyway, the 69er drain, probably the 69th drain found by the Melbourne Cave Clan, otherwise its just a weird name. This is one of, if not, my favourite drain in Melbourne. It's one of melbournes older drains, starting life as a bluestone open canal, it was covered by more bluestone and redbrick. Downstream it turns into newer slippery plastic before splitting into two concrete box sections, often clogged with yummy smelling river mud. I need to get back down to get the red brick, plastic and concrete bits, enjoy ye olde bluestone for now

The Dreadnought

Done on 15/12/009 with me Gav and Ath of the Cave Clan.

At roughly 9 metres deep and the size of a field hockey pitch, this is (probably) Melbournes largest underground cavity. It is a sewage pumping station/overflow tank which is luckily rarely used. There is a control room which allows you to turn the lights and ventilation on. Ace
